What performance testing involves
Performance problems frustrate users long before systems fail outright. Pages take several seconds, reports time out at month end, mobile screens stutter on mid-range phones. Performance testing measures these behaviours against agreed targets and, more importantly, finds the root causes so engineering teams know what to fix.
We establish response time baselines for key transactions, profile applications with application performance monitoring tools, analyse database execution plans and measure front-end performance with Lighthouse and WebPageTest. Lightweight performance checks are then added to delivery pipelines so regressions are caught before release rather than discovered by users. Findings are written for both engineers and managers: the precise cause and fix for developers, and the business effect, such as slower order entry at month end, for decision makers.
