Load & Stress Testing

Simulating peak and extreme traffic to confirm systems handle sale days, admission results, tax deadlines and campaign launches, and to find breaking points before real users do.

Quality Engineering & Testing Service capability

Capability overview

What load & stress testing involves

Many systems work well on ordinary days and fail at the moments that matter most: a festive sale, exam results publication, a subsidy application deadline, a ticket release or a television advertisement. Load and stress testing simulates those peaks in advance, so capacity, autoscaling and failure handling are proven rather than assumed.

Tests model realistic user behaviour, including think time, journey mix and geographic distribution, using tools such as k6, Apache JMeter, Gatling or Locust, with load generated from cloud infrastructure when volumes are high. Results show the traffic level at which response times degrade, the component that fails first and how the system recovers.

Load & Stress Testing delivery workshop

What is included

Test types

Load testing

Expected peak traffic sustained to confirm response times and error rates stay within targets.

Stress testing

Traffic increased beyond expected peaks to find breaking points and observe failure behaviour.

Spike testing

Sudden surges simulated, such as notification-driven traffic, to test autoscaling and queues.

Soak testing

Sustained load over many hours to reveal memory leaks, connection exhaustion and slow degradation.

Capacity planning

Results translated into infrastructure sizing, scaling policies and cost estimates for peak events.

How we work

How we deliver load & stress testing

Workload modelling

Expected users, transactions per second and journey mix derived from analytics and business forecasts.

Script development

Realistic scripts built with dynamic data, sessions and correlation of server responses.

Environment readiness

Production-like environment, monitoring and third-party test agreements confirmed.

Test execution

Load, stress, spike and soak runs executed with system metrics captured.

Findings and retest

Bottlenecks reported with recommendations, then tests repeated after fixes.

Related capabilities

Related capabilities in Quality Engineering & Testing

Security Testing

Security checks built into the QA cycle for every release, including automated SAST, dependency and DAST scans, authorisation test cases and security regression tests, complementing periodic penetration tests.

Web Application Testing

Testing focused on the specific risks of browser-based applications, including forms, sessions, file uploads, responsive layouts, accessibility, browser behaviour, caching and search-visible content.

Mobile Application Testing

Testing Android and iOS apps on real devices and emulators, covering functionality, interruptions, network conditions, permissions, battery and memory use, app store requirements and automation with Appium or native frameworks.

Compatibility Testing

Checking that web and mobile applications work consistently across browsers, operating systems, devices, screen sizes, assistive technologies and configurations your users actually have.

Questions & answers

Questions about Load & Stress Testing

Cannot find what you need? Our team responds to technical and commercial questions within one business day.

Ask a question

Ideally four to six weeks, leaving time to fix bottlenecks and retest. A final confirmation test close to the event checks that recent changes have not reduced capacity.
