Manual Testing
Skilled human testing where automation is impractical or insufficient, including exploratory testing, new feature validation, usability observations, complex business scenarios and user acceptance support.
Capability overview
What manual testing involves
Automation is excellent at repeating known checks quickly. People are better at discovering problems nobody anticipated: a confusing workflow, a calculation that looks plausible but is wrong for a regional tax rule, a screen that breaks when a real customer name contains unusual characters. Manual testing remains essential for new, changing and judgement-heavy functionality.
Our testers use structured exploratory testing with charters and time-boxed sessions, rather than aimless clicking, and record findings with screen recordings and logs. For features changing every sprint, manual testing is often more economical than automating tests that would need constant rewriting. Testers also note usability friction, unclear messages and missing requirements as they go, which gives product owners useful feedback beyond a simple list of defects, and helps decide which stable checks deserve automation next.

What is included
Manual testing types
Exploratory testing
Charter-based sessions investigating risky areas, unusual inputs, interruptions and real user behaviour.
New feature validation
Features checked against acceptance criteria and intended business outcomes as soon as they are built.
Business scenario testing
End-to-end scenarios such as a full claim lifecycle or month-end close, using realistic data and roles.
Usability and content checks
Observations on confusing labels, error messages, workflow friction and content errors.
UAT facilitation
Preparing scripts, data and environments for business users and consolidating their feedback.
How we work
How we deliver manual testing
Risk-based charters
Exploratory charters written for areas with the highest business risk or recent change.
Session execution
Time-boxed sessions with notes, evidence and observations captured as testing proceeds.
Debrief
Findings reviewed with developers and product owners to agree follow-up.
Defect reporting
Issues reported with reproduction steps, screenshots or recordings and environment details.
Automation candidates
Stable, repetitive checks identified during manual testing and passed to the automation backlog.
Related capabilities
Related capabilities in Quality Engineering & Testing
Automated Testing
Automating the checks that must run repeatedly, such as regression suites, smoke tests, API tests and data validations, so releases are verified in hours instead of days and testers focus on higher-value work.
Functional Testing
Verification that each feature behaves according to requirements and business rules, across user roles, data conditions, validations, calculations and workflows, before it reaches users.
Regression Testing
Protecting existing functionality every time software changes, through risk-based regression suites, impact analysis, automation of stable checks and suite maintenance that keeps regression cycles short.
API Testing
Testing APIs directly for correct responses, business rules, error handling, security checks, contract compatibility and performance, using Postman, REST Assured, Karate or Pact in automated pipelines.

Questions about Manual Testing
Cannot find what you need? Our team responds to technical and commercial questions within one business day.
Ask a questionYes. Automation confirms known behaviour, while manual exploratory testing finds unexpected problems, usability issues and gaps in requirements that automated scripts are not designed to catch.
Simultaneous learning, test design and execution guided by a charter. Testers adapt based on what they observe, which makes it effective for discovering defects in complex or new functionality.
Yes. Testers prepare scenarios and data, guide users through testing, log defects consistently and summarise acceptance status for sign-off.
By dedicated testers billed monthly or as fixed-scope test cycles for defined releases.
