What integration testing involves
Components that pass their own tests can still fail together. An ERP rejects orders because a date format differs, a message arrives twice and creates duplicate shipments, a partner API times out under load, or a nightly file is processed before the upstream job finishes. Integration testing targets these boundaries, where many serious production defects originate.
We test integrations across services, applications and external partners, verifying data mapping, sequencing, error handling, retries and reconciliation. When third-party systems or test environments are unavailable, service virtualisation with tools such as WireMock or Mountebank simulates their behaviour, including slow responses and failures. Every integration test records the data sent and received on both sides, so when something fails the evidence needed to fix it is already available to each team involved.
